Trillium Ore Alternatives by Anunnaki

Today's Hatchery post was submitted by Anunnaki - The Venture Co. If you'd like your own gold-making post to appear on the Hatchery email the post, title, images and your name/pseudonym to powerwordgold@gmail.com with the word "Hatchery" as part of the subject line.

A new feature in MoP is the Luck of the Lotus Buff which is obtained when you loot Golden Lotus as an herbalist.  This buff "Allows you to sometimes find extra treasure from monsters in Pandaria.  Lasts 15 min.  Effect persists through death."  I was not quite sure what this meant when I first looted the herb, but I did notice that I was getting random 'Plundered Treasure' while I had the buff. Read on past the jump for more.

These are basically chests that contain gold as well as an item.  I didn't pay too much attention to this feature on the first few treasures I received, but my interest was piqued when I received 3 black trillium and 2 white trillium ore in one of these chests.

I then decided to check out WowHead and see what the possible drops are from Plundered Treasure.

Currently there are only 5 items listed on the loot table for this item: Windwool Cloth, Black Trillium Ore, White Trillium Ore, Ghost Iron Ore, and a BoE trinket called Core of Decency.  I can confirm that I have only received windwool, ghost ore, and the trillium from the few chests I have received, but I believe there may be a possibility for more rare items with a lower drop percentage.

As far as I can tell, Golden Lotus is a rare spawn like Black Lotus and Frost Lotus of past, but I am not positive on that information. It is of green item quality and I have not seen much in my early play (Still in Jade Forest.)  I plan to try grinding a bit more under the buff next time I receive it to come up with some drop rate data and get a better idea of the viability of this as an alternate to mining.

I feel like a LVL90 could grind in Jade Forest easily and have success with better drops under the buff.  Something to consider in your early adventures in the Pandaland, I hope this helps you out. Enjoy.
